Sobs (A best friend)

Gabriella pulled herself onto the rock, shaking as she sobbed more. She was sober now, the world was less bright, but everything bad was flooding back to her. Alec had been cheating on her, and somehow she had a feeling that her friends had known he was bad for her. And then there was the rock that she was sitting on. It was the same one that she and Isaac had sat on when they first began dating, just before the Death Eater attack.

She wished that the tears inside of her would leak down her face and show the world that she was sad, but it wouldn't happen that way. Her face would hardly show anything. The only thing she could do was sob, sob and shake. Gabriella buried her head in her hands, her long hair fanning out around her. She didn't bother to look up when someone approached...

It was Jasmine. She had donned her new engagement ring, the emerald sparkling in the sun. She was admiring it when she came across Gabriella, sobbing as only a vampire could. She swept over her cousin and gave her a hug. She didn't need words to express her question.

Gabriella didn't have to look up to know who it was. However, she looked up anyway to face her cousin. "Hi Jas," she said quietly. "It's...Alec. He...I...well, I saw him kissing Scarlet Golden at the Three Broomsticks." Out of habit, Gabriella's pale hand ran through her hair, pulling it back off of her face. As she did so, she noticed Jasmine's ring and gasped.

Jasmine blushed and hid her hand behind her back in attempt to hide it, but she knew it was too late. She set her hand back in her lap and looked up at Gabriella. "Surprise...?" she muttered, hiding her eyes behind her long blond hair.

Gabriella smiled a bit. "I sort of knew," she admitted, giving her cousin a big hug. "I'm happy for you. He'll make a great husband." Gabrielal knew it was true, they were meant for each other it seemed.

Jasmine took her cousin at an arms length. "Now, back to you. This is devastating, but in the end, something good will turn out. Promise. Scarlet is a stuck up Veela, Alec is a player, but you know who truly loves you."

Gabriella's smile vanished. Ariana had insisted that Isaac loved her, but she wasn't sure. And now Jasmine was telling her that she knew who loved her. "I don't know who loves me," she said stubbornly, her sadness coming back up to the surface.

Jasmine frowned. "Isaac... his parents..." she tried to give hints. She knew why, but she didn't know if Isaac wanted her to say anything to Gabby. She stopped herself there and smiled. "Trust me" she whispered, hugging her cousin.

"I do trust you Jas," Gabriella said, sighing as she released her cousin. "Ariana said that he still likes me and that the only reason he broke up with me is because his dad threatened to kill me. But that's stupid. Can't he figure out that I can take care of myself?!" Gabriella paused for a moment and took a deep breath. "So it's true then?" she asked tentatively.

Jasmine bit her lip, then nodded. "That's the only reason he would dream of breaking up with you in a million years." she replied, putting her arm around Gabriella. "Trust me cous." Jasmine smiled a bit. She felt she was flaunting her ring to much, but she knew the look of satisfaction wasn't showing. She didn't want to be too smug.

"Ok, I trust you," Gabriella said. "It's just weird. I wish he would have talked to me about it instead of saying nothing for so long." Gabriella sighed, watching Jasmine's emerald ring glitter in the moonlight. It was the prettiest ring she could ever remember seeing.

Jasmine saw Gabriella staring at her ring and laid her hand in Gabby's. "It is rather beautiful, isn't it?" she asked. She couldn't stop looking at the ring, it just mesmerized her. And the fact of getting married? Rather exciting. Or frightful.

Gabriella grinned. Jasmine always seemed to know what she was thinking. "It is very beautiful," Gabriella said. "I can't remember ever seeing a prettier ring. He picked a good one." Gabriella knew that that type of ring would never work for her, she would smush it too easily. Emeralds were soft, Gabriella's actions were not always so.

Jasmine smiled. "Sure... I think a diamond would be better for you. Much less fragile." she replied, taking her eyes off of the ring for a split second. She stared back up at Gabby, and her smile dimmed. "What's wrong? Something else is on your mind, and don't deny it. I'm no idiot."

Gabriella sighed. Jasmine always knew, as did Angel. They were like little monitors of her distress. "I would break it," she said sadly. "I would break even if I tried not to. I hate being a monster." Gabriella hit the rock impatiently, a dent formed.
